This took me ages to do, I must say. A frined sent me through a screenshot of the Warhammer 40,000 cinematic of the last image, yet it seemed to empty. We needed some firepower, dead guys and other crap.
So, I drew the landscape and the flag and crawling Space-marine, then decided to bath most of it in shadow. It takes away a bit of detail but who gives a crap. It looks good to me . Then I drew the ships, using the Warhammer ships as reference. Some Dreadnaughts added in, I thought it was looking good. Except I needed some action. I wanted to have a few different focuses in the image.
I couldn't find any reference of a dead space marine, so I just had to draw it myself. I did everything succesfully except the head, so I canned the head and decided to make him headless. Just Imagine his head exploded when he died or something
I decided to add one more dying dude. I sketched up a space marine and added some blood for his headshot death.
So now I color. Color took the longest; I scrapped the boring old red color in the actual cinematic and went for a more bleak color. This way the detail stood out more.
This is from Dawn of war the WH40K game... You added the war-hawks, the extra space marines, the dreads, and that's it. You didn't draw anything in this...
